Firefighter adopts the dog he rescued from a burning warehouse
Their first meeting was in the smoke. Their second was for keeps.

When Portland firefighter Mateo Alvarez pulled a terrified terrier mix from a warehouse fire last month, he never expected to see the dog again.
Two weeks later, after the shelter posted about a dog who wouldn't warm up to anyone, Alvarez recognized the face. He drove straight there.
"She walked to me like she'd been waiting," he said. "That was that." The dog, now named Ember, sleeps at the firehouse most nights.
